What does 2 Samuel 13:37 mean?

Absalom escaped and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. David mourned for his son every day. 2 Samuel 13:37 - Modern Text Bible

(Absalom finds refuge with his grandfather in Geshur, while David grieves deeply for Amnon.)

Absalom runs away to Geshur, seeking refuge with his grandfather Talmai, the king there. The Hebrew word for "fled" is barach, which means to escape or run for your life. Absalom knows he can’t stay after what he’s done, so he finds safety with family outside Israel’s reach.

This verse pushes back against the idea that actions don’t have consequences. Absalom’s choice to kill Amnon leads to exile and separation from his home. Even as a prince, he can’t avoid the fallout of his decisions.

When you make a choice, especially one with big consequences, you might want to run or hide. But running doesn’t erase what happened. Facing the results of your actions is hard, but it’s part of being human. If you’re tempted to escape, remember that real change comes from dealing with what you’ve done, not just running away.
