What does 2 Samuel 22:6 mean?

'When the grave wrapped its ropes around me and death trapped me,' 2 Samuel 22:6 - Modern Text Bible

(He describes feeling trapped and hopeless, as if death itself had him cornered.)

David says he felt caught in the ropes of death and the traps of the grave. The Hebrew word chevel (חֶבֶל), meaning 'cord' or 'rope,' gives the sense of being tied up and unable to escape.

This language is brutally honest about fear and helplessness. It goes against the idea that you’re always in control, or that danger is just a test of willpower. Sometimes, fear feels like something that binds you tight and won’t let go.

If you’re feeling stuck, trapped by anxiety, grief, or any kind of loss, this verse puts words to that experience. You’re not weak for feeling trapped. Sometimes, just naming the trap is the first step toward finding a way out.
